Classwork 2/14

1a. An operating system is a software that is creates the tasks that every single computer is able to do, it is the main source of the actions of the computer.

1b. Two utilities that could be used for the user to use the computer despite his injury would be on an on screen keyboard that could be accessed through the mouse and another utility would be voice recognition software. The Onscreen keyboard would allow the user to only have to use one hand to type and It would make everything a lot faster and more efficiently because he would not have to waist his time finding the keys. Voice recognition software would work because the user would not need his arm to talk and as a result everything he says can be put onto the computer and his words can be typed out.

4a. Artificial intelligence is the intelligence of machines and the branch of computer science that aims to create it. AI textbooks define the field as "the study and design of intelligent agents"

b. Clippy could tell that the user is writing a letter because he knows when Microsoft word is being open and he can identify when a header and a footer are being used. Headers and footers are used for letters and as a result Clippy can tell when they are being used and can tell when a letter is being made. Clippy can also narrow down possible intentions of use which shows that he can find out what each word file is being used for. Clippy can tell when letter information is being used when addresses, cities, and zipcodes are being entered into word.

2a. Two technical reasons why the quality of the videos could be limited is because they may be very large files which allows them not to be seen as efficiently and speed is limited which means it takes longer for them to be processed.

2b. There are many possibilities why some web based videos do not play on some computers at all. One possibility is that different standards in existence and different standards require different software, which means each computer has different programs and software, and one could not contain the software needed to play the video, such as Adobe flash player. Another possibility is that a computer has insufficient RAM, which means it would not have the ability to obtain and play the video efficiently. The possibility of different software shows that if a computer did not contain the right software it would not be able to take part in the video watching. Each computer has a different amount of RAM which is very important because without more or less can be watched.

2c.
The increase in sales and tickets could be at an all time high because of the availability of online web-based materials because it makes it easy to look up specific areas of interest that somebody has. Instead of waiting long periods of time or guessing until something they want to see appears, they can find the exact date and go when they want to see what they want; it provides selection and options which people value greatly. Another reason this might be because of web based materials is that there is an increase of exposure to the opera and art galleries because people are subject to the idea of going much more as it can appear in adds on the Internet more rather than people hearing it manually. Another reason web based material could be responsible for the result of availability is that it gives the “try before you buy” mentality and potential that people value because they can tell or see what they are getting into and ultimately what they will be going to. It also provides links to websites that people value and want to go to.

3a. The term text file refers to a type of computer file. Text files are a computer file whose information is expressed in text/writing.

3b. OCR can convert handwriting into text file by scanning the written text, text is digitized, text is stored as a graphic file, letters are stored, size of writing found, pattern matched with stored shapes. This process converts the handwriting into text file step by step and is a complex way to change the OCR into text file. The text goes through this process to change every time that it is changed to a text file.

3c. It may not be accurate using OCR techniques for a multitude of different reasons. However four major reasons why are that the handwriting may be too messy to read, all of the letters may be joined up and difficult to read, there could quite possibly be resolution issues that cause it to be hard to see the image, the writing may be faint and it could be hard to identify what is trying to be sad so as a result the text can not be converted.

Classwork 4/12

1. a) Two tasks performed by a network server apart from the storage of users' files is that the information is stored onto the computer instead of a storage file which would be able to be removed but the files on the computer are stored. Another would be that the information would be able to be deleted or lost more easily because it is not stored on an actual storage unit but inside the computer.
b) One advantage of schools providing their students with USB drives is that they could store a lot more of data and information on the USB drive. One disadvantage of schools providing their students with USB drives is that the students could easily lose their USB drives because of their size.
c) Two precautions that a student should take when using USB drives for saving important work would be that they need to make sure that they do not take out the USB drive to quickly because the information won't save. Also, they need to make sure to save the information to the USB and not anything else.
4. a) i) The software is a database
ii) Another task is to query the information in the database

b) Two other IT methods that can help them to use the application software successfully would be to view a tutorial on how to use the methods that have to be studied. The tutorial would teach the users how to successfully use the application software as it would go over all of the different aspects and capabilities of the software. Another IT method would be using the Internet because the Internet has a variety of different ways and websites that show how to work certain software.

c) It is the responsibility of the company, rather than the employee, to pay for the training because the company is the one who wants these people to train and the employees are only told what to do making it so that the company is the one in charge to pay for the training. The company is obligated to pay because they are the ones that are demanding that the employees get trained and without that training the employers would not have employees that knew how to do the job. It is the responsibility of the employers of the company to properly manage and pay for a system that gives training employees the ability to learn how to use the software.

5. a)
i) A terabyte is a unit of data storage which also stands for one trillion bytes.

ii) GPS stands for Global Positioning System that positions people and objects on certain parts of the planet based on satellites and the frequencies they pick up.

b) The steps involved in capturing and storing the satellite image data that will be used to create the maps in google earth are that the satellites survey each and every given spot of land on the planet, a process that is done over and over again for each single spot of land, the land is surveyed and images are taken of the land as well as its surroundings. The images that are on the satellite are saved and converted to the google server where they are implemented into the google software on google earth.

c) GPS technology and mapping software work together to allow the operator to find a destination by pin pointing separate destinations through satellites and destinations that are on the map. The destination has to be selected or found on the mapping software and picked up by the satellites the GPS uses. The cell phone equipped with GPS has a signal that is picked up and is transmitted that can show the operator where to reach his destination. The network is used to take the coordinates and put in the mapping software. As a result the user is able to find where they want to go and their given path such as LAX. The mapping software uses coordinates to determine location of map and
searches the function that enables a search of the airport.

d) It is acceptable to a very great amount for many particular reasons. The possibilities of having high resolution images are that they can be harmful to the privacy and protection of some places. For example, if the government is trying to hide a military base, and anyone with access to the Internet can see what is going on in the base by google earth, it is not being protected at all. High resolution google images put countries at risk and become vulnerable to other countries with higher technological developments because it then becomes an issue of natural security. The advantages of having high resolution images on google earth however is that it makes it very fun and entertaining to view attractions, homes, and even people that can be seen through the images on the website. It is advantageous because many people use the website for both business purposes such as pinpointing open land as well as entertaining purposes. The disadvantages of having high resolution images are that terrorists or rival countries can keep track of the opposite countries movements and military change over periods of time very accurately and efficiently. An advantage of lower resolution images is that they can be put onto google without any trouble or controversy because they pose no major threat, however they contain disadvantages such as not being able to be seen very well and not being as entertaining or fun because not much can be seen. I believe every google image should be in low resolution to assure the safety an security of each citizen, and not let a website cause havoc among different countries and people.
The lower resolution images prevent breaches in national security where terrorists could locate sensitive military installations and business or individuals may feel more secure if unauthorized people cannot view details. However blurring certain parts of map would cause integrity issues and the “bad guy” would not be able to spot where weapons were located.

Classwork 4-4-11

a.) Two IT features of a smart card is the payment of the bike. The money for the bike is taken directly from the account of the buyer and is automatically paid for. The buyer does not have to produce the money because it can simply be taken right out of their account electronically. Another IT feature of a smart card is that the money can be transferred from one account to another account from any location or from any place because the money can be taken from one account to the other through the same card being used. RFE technology. Stores data and cyclist number.
b)Describe the process by which a cyclist can be authenticated when collecting a bike:The card is swiped and then the PIN is entered, the machine puts the PIN in the database and finds a match and if its matches the person is billed and their information is taken up. The cyclist is authenticated when they give their money, credit card information, and then they later receive a smart card or a PIN. The cyclist becomes authenticated when they return the bike back to the bike shop and they are registered into the system that creates them to be in the bike system. The cyclists can rent from any location through the credit card they have registered the first time, and they are authenticated because when the bike shop has the has the credit card information they can deduct money from the account if a bike is not returned.
c.) There are many advantages of using a relational database rather than a plat lines database. Relational databases can narrow down the search of things until it is one distinct thing that is being looked for, unlike a flat filed database that it would take awhile to query all of the information the user wanted to see and have access to. The flat file has to search the whole database for one certain thing when the relational database only has to search certain things and areas for one distinct thing. For example the Bike number, name, phone, address, and credit card information can be put into the relational database that can narrow it down to what is being looked for very quickly and efficiently. The purpose of the relational database is to make it easier for the user to find one distinct thing opposed to searching the whole thing.
d.) The privacy and security concerns that could arise from a database that records bike rentals is very great. There are many concerns that come from the information that is entered into the database. For example people would not feel comfortable having all of their personal information in a database that can be hacked or seen by other people and people would have access to it that the bike renters would not wish. When people rent the bikes they have to give their information such as their address, phone, and name, and if that information gets into the wrong hands or the database is hacked than it is very possible that the information will be taken and abused, such as spam being sent through email and phone. The most important security concern is the credit card information that has to be entered into the database, if the credit card information is taken or abused than people can lose a large amount of money and it would not be fair to the bike renters. They would be concerned that their money would be stolen from the database with their information would be taken from hackers or people that abuse the database. Advantages of having their information in the database is that they can rent from anywhere anytime, however disadvantages are that their information and credit card information are in an open database that people have access too.

Intellectual Property

a.) Intellectual property (IP) is a term referring to a number of distinct types of creations of the mind for which a set of exclusive rights are recognized—and the corresponding fields of law.
b.) Two services an ISP provides to Internet users are access to the internet and servicer. With an ISP the user can be granted access to the Internet where they can use search engines, use e-mail, and social networking sites where they can communicate with other guys. ISPs can leave server space for people that need if they are making a company or business.
c.)Two ways a home computer network could be adversely affected by the use of sharing files is by developing viruses from the shared files. The shared files could be come corrupt if they are shared because they are not authorized and they would not be safe to go to a home computer if the computer did not have Security it would affect the network. Another way is the reduction of speed on the computer because the file would be shared and it would not have the same quality as it would if it was not shared, this would affect the computer and the files that are stored.
d.) The implications for the music industry of governments regulating the use of P2P sites for file sharing would be that they would not have as many people downloading their songs because people would have to pay for them. Their popularity would go down, however more people would buy their CDs and songs on Itunes rather than sharing all of the files........finish later

Expert Systems

(a) Identify two possible ways that the road sensors can detect the passing of
a vehicle. [2 marks]
One way that the road sensors can detect the passing of a vehicle is the video camera on the traffic light, it can take a video of the car passing and record the data in it's video logs and database. Another way they can detect a passing vehicle is through specific monitoring devices that record speed, for example they have radar guns that measure speed and can show how many cars are passing and at which speed.

b)Two ways it could decrease travel journey times is by using sensors to show the speed of people and on major highways because if they did that than less people would use the road in fear of being billed a fine or caught for speeding and by using alternative roads they would not be stuck in traffic which would lead to less people on certain roads and reduce journey time. Another way they can decrease travel journey time is by changing the speed limit and by doing that people would travel at different rates and there would be less congestion on the road.

(c) Explain how the images from the digital speed cameras can be used to send
penalty notices to speeding drivers automatically. [4 marks]
The images from the digital speed cameras can be put into a database and then identify the driver through their license plate number because the database would include all of the license plates with the information of the driver. The penalty would be sent directly to the driver through the mail because the cameras could print out the information of the driver and how fast they were going through hardware like a printer. Another way is by faxing the information and speed from the camera to the user in their listed place of work or business.

(d) This could be abused by authorities because they would not have to do their job any longer because the cameras would do it for them. They would not have to reprimand speeding criminals because it would be done through the the cameras and sent automatically to the driver. The possibilities of this are that the authorities would no longer have initiative to do their job and many more people would receive fines for speeding because they would virtually not be able to speed without getting caught due to these cameras. The advantages of these cameras for the authorities however is that they will be able to catch more speeders than they would if they did not use the cameras. It would cost a lot less for the state because they would not have to hire as many authorities specifically highway patrol officers because the cameras would catch whoever was speeding. Another advantage would be that the authorities can catch people that abuse their car and speed much too often and put others in danger, by doing this it would take more people off of the street and keep things safer. However the disadvantages of this are that the police officers would become lazy in their duties because they would not have to do as much, and it would lead to problems politically because people do not have as much freedom. They are taken away from their freedom because they are constantly being surveyed which leaves them with no way to escape the authorities and ultimately the government as a whole. The disadvantages outweigh the advantages because if this were to happen it would cause havoc in the the world because people would be raped of their freedom and many rebellions and revolts would be the result. I believe the disadvantages outweigh the advantages because I believe it is important to have our freedom...

Classwork 3-28-11

1.)Multimedia- The use of computers to present text, graphics, video, animation, and sound in an integrated way. Long touted as the future revolution in computing, multimedia applications were, until the mid-90s, uncommon due to the expensive hardware required, media and content that uses a combination of different content forms.
2.) Two methods that can be used to reduce the amount of disk space are that the media can be condensed on the disk. With the media that is located on the desk being condensed, there would be a lower bit rate and most importantly there would be fewer pixels that would reduce the amount of disk space. Another method that could be used is to link graphics instead of embedding them because when they are linked all of the information is stored online rather than on the disk. It opens up more disk space and file compression is a method that can be used to reduce the amount of space because the information can be compressed.
3.) Some organisations choose to train their staff using multimedia training packages over face to face instructing with a human instructor because it offers more variety and possibilities than a human could. The multimedia training packages can present and show text, graphics, video and animation that can cause the trainee to learn faster and more efficiently. The multi-media can quickly train the staff because it can use videos of tutorials of how to do certain things, while a human instructor would not be able to do is as quickly and efficiently because they cannot provide step by step instructions as detailed as a video would. The advantages of multimedia training package is that it can cover all the basis, meaning that it can digitally show the trainee how to do the work, as well as have the sound of the work being done. It is advantageous because it saves the company more money because they can constantly reuse the package on new employees and will not have to pay the human instructors a lot of money to do their job. The disadvantages however are that the employee can not have the valued face to face time with an instructor that they can relate to and ask for help or questions when needed, but multimedia they can do it at their own pace and pause or rewind the video or sound when needed.

Classwork 3-24-11

1. What are two limitations of the wii as a simulation? Two limitations to the wii as a simulation are that it does not accurately provide the physical actions as the real sport would. For example when playing wii sports, you are not actually swinging the bat and running the bases, as you would in real life, so the simulation does not give that real sense of work-out and does not include the correct amount of physical action. A second limitation to the wii as a simulation is that it does not provide the work-outs people or humans need to provide the right amount of physical activity to stay healthy and have it count as a work-out, the wii simulation does not target the rest of your body rather than just your facial area and mainly your arms. As a result it is not a real work-out.
2. Two other potential uses of the technology incorporated within the Wii video game console is that is that you are able to stay in communication with others through the use of the Internet on the Wii. The Wii can play 'online'against people and also gives the opportunity to surf the web through the web browser incorporated into the Wii. Users are able to check their social networking sites, email, and other websites through the wii. The ability to be able to do that shows how convenient the Wii is because people can use it instead of using the Internet through another device such as a computer. The technology in the Wii can be used to communicate with others through sites online as well as face-to-face chat as video cameras can be incorporated into the wii. Another potential use of the technology incorporated into the Wii video game console is a motion sensor. The Wii is only able to be used when the motion sensor is activated with the controller, and with that technology, a motion sensor could be activated that shows whenever somebody or something crosses the path of the television or wherever the wii is located. With this technology, people would be able to track whoever passes through their house and possibly catch a predator or an intruder in their house. The motion sensor can show what is in their house or passing through it and the possibility for crime to decrease could happen.
3. Wireless communication can be done through the process of signals through satellites and objects like telephone poles. The receiver sends a signal to the transmitter and it is picked up and opened and the information is relayed from one to the other. Two devices that are not connected connected that can communicate are the Wii controller and the the wii itself. The wii controllers movements and buttons are received by the transmitter which is the motion sensor at the top of the television, the motion sensor relays the information and movements of the controller and relays them to the Wii console itself. The effect of this is that it is a lot more convenient because it is wireless technology that allow movements to be a lot more easier and comfortable.
4. The role of video game consoles in the healthcare of the elderly is huge. The elderly use the video game consoles as a way to have steady, easy workouts that are very feasible for old frail bodies. Video game consoles provide the elderly with the opportunity to work-out and move in the comfort of their own home or place of living, with limited stress or exhaustion. The elderly can use the game console at their own pace and stop whenever they please, opposed to other traditional work-out machines like treadmills that do not stop and are not controlled as easily. The advantages of the role of video games being big on the healthcare of the elderly is that it allows the elderly to work-out very comfortable and just be able to move with not as much effort as real work-outs would. The advantages include that the elderly can prevent their arthritis from getting worse because their hands would always be in movement when working and using the video game consoles, also the elderly can stay in movement and have fun while doing it, they will be motivated because it is a fun and happy way to work-out which keeps their old depressed lives filled with fun and happiness and they can collaborate together and have fun, because at an age like that they do not have many friends at all. However there are some disadvantages of the video game consoles having a big role on the healthcare of the elderly, they lose the real work-outs and life experiences of the real world. They do not walk as much and experience the outdoors because their workouts can be done quickly and efficiently through the game consoles and they lose interaction with the real world and its surroundings. The advantages outweigh the disadvantages in this case however, because the game consoles give happiness, and a reliable work-out to the elderly which they would not receive if the game consoles did not exist. It is something that is fun for them and fun is needed at that age, as well as keeping their health up by always having them moving and interacting with others.

Classwork 3-10-11

1. Define the term resolution- the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed
2. Two interactive services that could be provided with digital TV are video-on-demand (Comcast on demand)and DVR. Users are able to control the content of what they are viewing when they use these services because that is why they are there. The users are able to pause, fast forward, and rewind what they are viewing because of the digital TV and it's interactions. The interactive services provide the user with more convenience and more time on their hands.
3. Two ways a domestic installation such as a digital TV can communicate with the digital provider is through the cable/box. All of the interactions that are made on the TV whether it is buying a movie, or watching certain shows on pay-per-view, the digital provider has to have access to these transactions in order to charge the owner of the digital TV for what they have purchased. The digital providers have access to the cable/box and all that is purchased through the cable box. Another way is the binary digits and satellite communication the TV has. The digital providers are able to identify what the TV user is watching and purchasing through the satellite communication. Each digital TV needs binary digits as well as satellite communication in order to function and work correctly because there is no other way of solid communication.
4. The growth of video clips on the Internet is increasingly taking over the need of digital Tv. When viewers watch movies, shows, and documentaries on the Internet, they are most always free of charge, unlike a digital TV that is a hefty price. Video clips are becoming much more popular because not only are they very cheap, they are very convenient and their is no subscription or money transactions needed to view the clips, if their is an internet connection, video clips can be viewed. They are slowly but surely taking over digital TV because they make more sense financially as well as logically. On Video clip sites like Hulu, you are able to watch many free shows and episodes that are seen on digital TV, as a result many people wait till they come out on the website to watch them because if they have a laptop they can be viewed from anywhere. The disadvantages of video clips taking over digital TV is that it is a possibility that in time there will be no digital TV and Internet clips will be the only form of viewing television, however an advantage would be that people would not have to pay for shows or movies that they wanted to see anymore because they could just be seen for free on the internet. The affect of this is that it shows how the Internet is taking over the world and everything that is digitized because it is so much easier and better to use than perhaps digital TV.

4. A key field is a field or set of fields of a database table which together form a unique identifier for a database record.
B. The process used to create a query which would produce an alphabetical list of all citizens who were born after 1990 and have suffered from diabetes that do not smoke would consist of making a query using the query wizard, and identify the key fields that contain names, diabetes, smoke, and when the people were born. For the criteria of the query you would enter 'yes' for diabetes and 'no' for smoking, and then followed by the birthday using the < symbol.
C. Data matching is the task of finding entries that indicate the same entity in two or more files. Record linkage is a good and common technique when you have to join data sets that do not have a unique database key in common. Data mining is the process of taking out patterns from huge data sets by combining methods from stats and artificial intelligence with database management. With reference to the Icelandic database, the data is made anonymous by replacing the persons name with an ID number, which is used as a key field in the database. Citizens are required to give their personal information.
D. The advantages of medical research outweigh the concerns of the Icelandic citizens about storage of their genetic data to a very large extent because the medical research is saving their lives. The medical research is what is keeping the Icelandic people alive so there is no reason for them to be concerned about how their data is being stored. Without the medical research, the Icelandic people would not have any medical records at all, and would be in jeopardy of death or disease. The advantages of the medical research is that it allows Icelandic people to have treatment as well as identify any of their diseases, and the advantages of it being saved is that if there are any problems in the person further in their life they can be assessed by the medical records that have been saved.m The disadvantages of the medical research is that it takes away some of the freedom for the Icelandic people and exposes their enclosed culture, and a disadvantage of their medical records being saved in a query through an ID number is that their privacy is being somewhat violated and not taken into consideration. The affect of this is that the Icelandic people feel as if they are not being treated as fairly as they should, however the medical research outweighs their concerns because it helps the people. The advanced medical research is a lot more important than the simple concerns of the Icelandic people. Medical research and life saving is more important than privacy.

(a) From the simulation shown in the Diagram on the previous page,

(i) identify one input [1 mark]
Sunlight
(ii) identify one output. [1 mark]
Heat
(b) Describe two tasks which must be performed in the development of simulation
software like that used in the Diagram on the previous page. [4 marks]
Two tasks which must be performed in the development of simulation software like that used in the Diagram on the previous page are how the inputs and the outputs on the structure. If sunlight is added, the user needs to know what the sunlight will produce and how much of it will be produced. Another task is the latitude and longitude, area, and time of the simulation because they all have to be taken into account when focusing in on the real thing, rather than the simulation because they are real life things. The affect of the outputs and inputs of the simulation is that it determines how the real thing with interact with the elements at hand. The affect of the longitude, latitude, area, and time is that they are necessary in determining the outcome and progress of the product.
(c) Explain two advantages of using simulations to design products such as
greenhouses. [4 marks]
There are many advantages of using simulations to design products such as greenhouses, two main advantages would be that they will show and determine how the plants will grow, as well as how much sunlight will be in the greenhouse. The affect of the determination of knowing how much the plants will grow is an advantage because farmers will know how much plants to put in the greenhouse, how long it will take them to grow, and ultimately what kind of plants to grow. Determining how much sunlight will be in the greenhouse is an advantage because it will show the growth and how fast the plants will grow because sunlight is very valuable to the growth of plants and the more there is the faster the plants will grow.
(d) To what extent are simulations such as this useful in enhancing the teaching and
learning of a science subject? [10 marks]
Simulations are extremely useful in enhancing the teaching and learning of a science subject to a large extent because they can determine how any experiments or science related activities will come out. Simulations have the ability to determine the outcome of a series of events based on the knowledge that is put into them or that is available. They are useful in enhancing the teaching of a science subject because they show how the factors that are put into the subject interact with everything else. The simulations determine the inputs, outputs, flows and stores of the subject or any experiment and are very useful to teachers in teaching a certain subject because it is something that can always be referred to or shown. The teachers will have more free time to create better lesson plans. The students can use it to determine their experiments and outcomes and it will create them to always be able to know what they are seeing and doing.

Simulations!

http://www.domain-b.com/technology/20110307_simulations.html

How well do modelers understand the underlying science or theory of the system being studied?
Modelers understand the underlying science or theory of the system being studied very accurately because the simulation has matched with the actual reality of the simulation that is being studied.
How well understood are the relevant properties of the materials involved?
The relevant properties of the materials involved are understood very well because it is a very accurate simulation because those who enter the data in have studied it very a long time because it is their job, and other similar simulations have been used and have been done for the same process.
How accurate and complete are the data?
The data is very accurate and complete because it is proved that it matches with reality and that the simulation was exactly like what the real thing was. Meaning the simulation was a perfectly accurate representation of the teams in this case.
What are the assumptions and simplifications of the model?
The assumptions and simplifications of the model are that teams will win based on their record, players, coaches, and past experience in tournament play. All has to be taken into account when deciding which team will win which game. The assumptions are that a player or a certain coach will make the team win, rather than what really happens.
How closely do the results or predictions of the model correspond with results from physical experiments or real experience?
They are somewhat close, however there are no real physical experiments done to determine the winner of a series of basketball games. There is so many different factors that go into the process and are all in the future that it is impossible to do physically, it all has to be done through hypothetical simulations.

4.5/4.6/4.25/4.26/4.28

4.5-
1. The questions used to evaluate computer models are.....
How well do the modelers understand the underlying science or theory (be it physics, chemistry, economics, etc.) of the system being studied?
How well understood are the relevant properties of the materials involved?
How accurate and complete are the data?
What are the assumptions and simplifications of the model?
How closely do the results or predictions of the model correspond with results from physical experiments or real experience?
4.6-
The climate and car crash model use the simplification of a grid. Grids vary in different sizes and climate models stimulate roughly 100 years over. Due to the grid limitations, small storms, clouds and other small phenomena that fall between the grid points and are not accurately represented. The car crash is the same way because it is done in steps and things can fall through the good points.
4.25-
An argument in the defense of the experience firefighter is that he has been on the job for over 25 years, and that shows that he has a lot of experience doing controlled burns. The computer can possibly make suggestions on when to burn, but the man's judgement is just as strong because he has done this sort of thing for half a century, proving that the decision he makes will most definitely be the right one. Computers have very accurate calculations, but they are not able to be there in the moment, and can't have the emotions or feelings there are when a decision is being made, they do not have the first hand account of being there.
An argument in the boss' defense is that computers have the best judgement out of any human. (As shown on jeopardy through Watson the computer)The computers job is to accurately narrow down the time in which the burning is to take place, and if the recipients follow what the computer says than everything will go smoothly and there will be no chance of danger or injury.
4.26- My decision would not be affected by the company's policy about testing. The factors that are most important to me are what the company chooses to do after the testing has been done. If the product did not do well in the testing simulations or physical tests, than the product should not have been distributed in the first place. Every company needs to make sure that the products they make and sell are completely safe and people will not sustain any serious injury, if the company chooses to go against that policy than they should absolutely be reprimanded and face the repercussions that are to follow. In my personal opinion I think that everything that is sold should have some kind of insurance that no serious injury or death will be sustained involving the product, if company's do not pay attention or care about the testing, than they can burn in hell and go to jail because i'm not buying their stuff.
4.28-
1. I believe the model that predicts the effect of an income tax change on government revenue would be less reliable. Income tax can change at any time for any number of different reasons, whether it be some sort of natural disaster, another recession, or something having to do with only the government. Income tax is something that cannot be predicted or calculated and as a result a model that is suppose to predict the income tax would not be entirely accurate. In my opinion it would not make the right predictions most of the time.
2. I believe the model that can predict the position of the moon in relation to the earth, 30 years from now, can produce very accurate results. The atmosphere and it's surroundings are things that can be predicted very easily and accurately just by studying the patterns and history of the moon, history tends to repeat itself when it comes to space and how things interact with each other and move around, so I believe the predictions would be very accurate.
3. I believe the model that can predict how much optical fiber will be needed in a major city thirty years from now will have much less reliable results. There is no possible way to calculate how much optical fiber will be needed in a major city in thirty years because the population is growing at an exponential rate and then you have to combine that with the size of the people in a city and that can change in many different ways over the span of thirty years so the results would not be that accurate.
4. I believe the model that can predict how much CO2 will be emitted worldwide by burning fossil fuels for energy fifty years from now will not be accurate at all. Fossil fuels are declining as we speak and so calculations could not be made based on how much fossil fuel is available to us in today's time, because that will change and there is no guarantee on how much there will be in fifty years, so the results for how much will be burned will not be accurate.
5. I believe that models that predict the speed of a new racing boat hull design under specified wind conditions will be very accurate. The model can obtain the results of other hulls that are in commission and compare them to the new hull that is being made, and test the new hull in wind conditions and the model will be able to create a database of all the different mileage of winds and then directly relate them to that certain hull.

Surveillance

http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/easton/index.ssf?/base/news-0/1228712755190550.xml&coll=3

1. What is your article?
My article is about the infringement rights of citizens in the Leigh Valley and how they were not informed of video and surveillance cameras being distributed throughout the town, because it is a violation of their rights and they were not told of the event. The Bill of Rights Defense Committee of the Lehigh Valley took action against the police force and the town officials to change this because it infringes on their personal rights.

2. How did the IT development emerge?
The It development emerged from when town of Easton began to put up surveillance cameras to make a more safe and better environment and to create less crime in the community. However the citizens of the Leigh valley were not informed of these video cameras which is a direct violation of their personal rights because they are being tracked and seen without their consent.
3. Who are the stakeholders—individuals, institutions, societies who initiate and control the IT developments and are affected by them?
The stakeholder/individuals and institutions that control the It development are police officers in the police force and government officials because they were the individuals who failed to mention the existence of the cameras to the citizens. The stake-holders/individuals that are being affected by the It developments are the citizens of the towns where the surveillance cameras are administered because they are being monitored without their consent.
4. What are the advantages and disadvantages for the stakeholders?
The advantages of the surveillance cameras for the local government and the police force is that they will be able to track down people that are breaking the law if a crime is caught on tape. The camera videos can supply sufficient evidence to put a criminal guilty. Another advantage for the government and police force would be that they can track down offenders of the law or people that have expired license plates because the cameras can register the plates and run them through the databases and identify who is breaking the law. The disadvantages for the government and police force is that all of the citizens oppose the surveillance cameras which makes them not popular and may not withstand in court because their is so much opposition and controversy over them. The advantages for the citizens is that their children can be safe because cameras are being installed over the elementary school to make sure everything runs smoothly. The cameras will keep predators and criminals away. However a disadvantage for citizens is that their rights are being violated and their every moves throughout the town or wherever they go is being monitored and they have less freedom.
5. What feasible solutions can be applied to overcome problems?
The feasible solutions that can be applied to overcome problems include the government reducing the amount of video cameras being used to only spots that are in direct necessity of them, and to inform the citizens of their every move with surveillance to gain popularity and consent from them.
6. What is the social impact of the IT development on human life? This may include some or all of the following areas: economic, political, cultural, legal, environmental, ergonomic, health and psychological.
The social impact on the economy is that the government gains a lot more money from the installation of video cameras, although the cost of installment would be high, the government would gain a lot of money from distributed tickets to license plates and traffic violations the government finds with the video cameras. The impact on politics would be that the government can distribute more law violations and they would be able to make class action law suits against violators. The surveillance tapes can help narrow down what happens in the legal world and makes the government look better. The impact on the legal system is tremendous because the surveillance tapes serve as evidence for crimes because they can be caught on video and used as evidence in court to prosecute the offender of the law. The impact on psychological setting of people is that they lose their peace of mind. The one thing people have in the United States of America is the will to live and the vast amount of freedom that is not apparent in most countries. With the installation of video cameras in many towns and cities it is a violation of people's rights because they cannot go about freely in their lives. Their civil rights are infringed on because they will always be under video tape and monitored by their every move.

Photoshop

I believe that it is okay to use Photoshop software when you are trying to enhance your own looks, or rather fix the flaws that appear in a photograph you want to be flawless. For example, if there is a senior picture or a wedding picture being taken that will last a life time and is very important, everyone would want that picture to be the best it could be, and in order to be that way the flaws of whoever the picture is of have to be taken out. For example, pimples, unwanted hair, or freckles can be photo shopped out to enhance the photograph and make the person look more appealing. However I believe that photo shop software is not okay and should not be used when altering the looks of a separate individual that does not give consent for their photograph to be photo shopped. It is very wrong, immoral, and down right degrading when people change a photograph of somebody to make them look worse or embarrassing. Photo shopping should only take place when somebody wants it to happen and they give the okay and the right to do so.

1.
a A Bandwidth is a bit rate measure of available or consumed data communication resources expressed in bits/second or multiples of it
b)One advantage of sending images as bitmapped files instead of vector files is that it can display an image realistically because the images are made up of pixels which is like a colored dot. It is very easy to share these images as well because editing software is made to share them. This is an advantage because it creates time for the user because they are easier to send and share, which means the user has time for other things rather than taking more time to share files. One of the disadvantages of a bitmap file is that it usually does not resize well and the image becomes pixelated. This is a disadvantage because the image becomes distorted and is not restored to it's real value and has a different effect of the regular image.
c) One benefit to working from home would be that the author would have a lot more time on their hands. It is a lot more convenient for the author to work for home and it the author would be able to work from the comfort of their own home. A specific advantage of working from home is that the author could get more done in a smaller amount of time. The author would not have to travel to the office or spend time in the office rather than working from home. However a specific disadvantage of working from home from is that the author would not get the hands on affect of working in the office and having the interaction with other employees and this is a disadvantage because the author would not have the team-working skills necessary to be a good writer and peer.
One problem of working from home would be that the author would not be able to interact with the publisher and see how the book is coming along day by day in the office. A specific disadvantage of this would be that the author would be that the author would not be able to view everything the publisher is doing with the book.

a) An MP3 is a patented digital audio encoding format using a form of lossy data compression.
b) One task a user can perform with digital jukebox software is to play music. The digital jukebox software can play music for the users and allow users to manage their music in different categories and genres. This is an important task because it is a way that people can manage their music and put it all in order in a way that it can be stored and shared onto their digital audio players. Another task a user can perform with digital jukebox is to play videos and store them on their digital audio players, the digital jukebox software can store and purchase videos or movies that can be saved.
c) The implication of a bit rate when downloading music is that a higher bit rate would be more effective because it downloads by bits per second and if more music is being downloaded a higher bit rate would be needed. A higher bit rate would be needed because people tend to download a lot of music and if it is bits per second than a higher bit rate would be necessary to make that happen. They gave different bits and each bit is used for a different purpose. Depending on how much music is being downloaded either a kbit, mbit, or gbit would be needed.
D)
Digital audio players have a huge impact on the music industry because

1-6-11 questions

1. Pixel- the smallest element on a screen that is the smallest unit of picture that can be controlled and used and each pixel has it's own unique address.
Megabyte- used for transmission of information or information storage and it is a multiple of a byte, 1, 048, 576 bytes.
B. Two ways tourists can digitally share pictures from the cameras with their families at home is by uploading the pictures onto a computer and sending them from the computer by email. Another way is social networking sites where images can be uploading and shred through family no matter where they are.
C. One benefit of storing an image in JPG format is that the image will always be clear because of JPG's great quality and ability to bring out the best in an image. Jpgs are faster and more efficient as well because you can upload images right from your memory card opposed to your whole camera. They are better because they are more compatible with printers and computers.
D. The concerns that may arise from the fact that digital cameras store and distribute photos very easily are that it causes traditional snapshot cameras to go out of business because they cannot compete with the digital cameras, photos are stored more digitally on computers and phones with digital cameras and there are less physical pictures than in the past, and pictures can be uploaded to computers and shared through social networking and email sites which means people no longer have to pay to have their pictures developed or sent in the mail. These are major concerns because it is putting companies out of business, erasing a traditional, popular invention in the past, and causing camera development companies less business. The concerns are that nobody will use regular cameras and everything will be shared digitally opposed to physically.
